At the Ellis Island Foundation web site you can look up family members who arrived at the turn of the century in New York.  According to the records, Michael Markow arrived August 21, 1908 from Skalat, Austria (Ukraine) on the Pennsylvania ship at the age of 23.  The ship sailed out of Hamburg.  He did not appear to travel with other family members, although his brother and several other relatives may have arrived with a few years of 1908.  He listed his brother Bartholomew as the close relative or friend.
